2000’s
As a family-owned and operated business, Kieran and Brigid’s young family were exposed to their passion for beautifully handcrafted sofas and chairs from a young age. In 2009, eldest son Ciaran joined the business. Ciaran, much like his parents, had a strong and focused work ethic and brought a whole new outlook and perspective to our business.
As a wholesale-only business, they began to explore new opportunities when the economic downturn of the late 2000’s took hold. Rethinking the business model led them down new avenues and in 2012 the first showroom in the factory in Emo, Co. Laois was opened. This was a whole new venture, gave an opportunity to sell directly to customers.
In 2013 younger brother Kilian joined the family business. Kilian working alongside brother Ciaran brought another new dimension to the business. Kilian was heavily involved in the setup and opening of our second Finline showroom on the Long Mile Road in Dublin. Later than year, we lost our dear co-founder Bridget. Following her untimely death, Kieran took a step back leaving the business in the very capable hands of the next generation – sons Ciaran and Kilian. While no longer involved in the day-to-day running of the business Kieran keeps a keen eye and is always on hand to offer advice.
Our retail footprint has continued to expand, and we opened two further stores in Douglas Woollen Mills, Cork in 2015 and Galway in 2018. In 2023 our sofa range returned to the floor of Arnotts, Dublin 1.
The Sofa Makers – From The Beginning
1980’s
A family-owned business, Finline Furniture was originally set up by husband-and-wife team Kieran and Bridget Finane in 1979. Recognising the lack of high quality Irish handcrafted sofas and chairs, their vision to fill this gap was the basis on which Finline Furniture was created and operates today.
Relocating with a young family to the beautiful, picturesque village of Emo in Co. Laois, they opened their factory doors in November 1979. Selling through leading retailers across Ireland, Finline’s handcrafted furniture was introduced to the Irish furniture market. Throughout the 1980’s Finline Furniture began to grow and expand each year, becoming a fully established manufacturing business in the heart of Ireland.
1990’s
Over the next decade, Finline continued to expand and began exporting into the UK market with our newly created ‘Heritage House’ brand. This opened more doors for us. Exportation to the Middle East followed as the brand grew and we began to work with some well-known hotels refreshing and fitting out rooms and, in some cases, hotels outside of Ireland as far as Kuwait and Dubai.
